The Art of Chess: Saatchi Gallery .(scribbled at 06:42 )

It is taking forever to write about last week's journey to Germany for dOCUMENTA, I've already reached 895 words and I haven't even finished talking about the first exhibition space we visited. I have a niggling feeling that it may end up being an essay somewhat so for now I'm going to leave you with a handful of photographs I took at the Saatchi Gallery just over a week ago.

I actually haven't been to the Saatchi in ages, not since I moved to London anyway. Well, I took my mother in briefly the last time she was in London, but that was only to show her the Richard Wilson installation. If I remember correctly, I think more time was spent scoffing French patisserie next door than admiring how an entire room had been filled with thick sump oil. Not quite sure whether I should be admitting that in hindsight now...

There's so much to see at the Gallery currently, but if you see anything there next time you're at the Duke of York's Headquarters then make sure it's The Art of Chess exhibition. I went on its opening day; a huge selection of artists have been commissioned to create bespoke chess sets, and they've all been brilliantly executed. As you would guess, most of them are fairly easy to identify- the Jake and Dinos Chapman set stood out a mile off, but others are more subtle. Maurizio Cattelan, Damien Hirst and numerous other artists have been featured so I imagine it's going to be a fairly busy exhibition until it closes at the beginning of next month.
