Lighting: FOCUS. .(scribbled at 21:47 )
I think I write too much about chairs and not enough about
other aspects of design. In order to try and convince you all that my heart is
with more than those 4-legged-veneered- friends of mine, here are a pick of my current favourite lighting elements:
| | |
Reclaimed Tap Light: Graham & Green (£115) |
|
Bird Cage Light: Graham & Green (£395) |
|
Jeeves Light: French Bedroom Company (£150) |
|
FOSCARINI Orbital Floor Lamp (£840). Alexander Calder would have loved this, I assure you! |
And our very own Tom Dixon of course! What would life be
without the wonderful Jack Light, as
featured in the V&A's exhibition,
British Design 1948–2012: Innovation in the Modern Age.
|
Jack Light: Tom Dixon (£250) |
In an ideal world, I’d have possession of all of these.
However, what with the recession and having to afford rent in London, one has
to look elsewhere for more affordable options. Darn.
However, I totally recommend John Lewis and IKEA for your
lighting ventures; John Lewis’ designs are usually based on high end designer
options, and they can literally always be
relied on for their good quality products*.
And... I’m also slowly warming up to MOOOI’s Horse Floor Lamp now. It’s only taken like, years. Whilst typing out this entry, I've also discovered thefrenchhouse.co.uk, which has got some great bespoke pieces on sale!
|
BTC Teapot Pendant, John Lewis (£120) |
|
|
|
|
Suck UK Wooden Bulb (£100). Can be bought from Urban Outfitters. |
|
NIPTID, IKEA (£9.99) Uses LEDs too, so great news for the eco warrior within us! |
When picking out lighting, opt for textures and variety. Mix
the levels up a bit; do invest in
wall lights and free standing lamps… sometimes ceiling lights and a box of ole
tea lights just won’t do! It’s good to be able to alternate variety and shading
levels. Do you really want a megawatt
ceiling lamp when you’re hosting a dinner party? No. But if you want your
home clutter free of any additional lamps lurking around; then put your lights
onto dimmer switches. Simple.
*NB: Just realised I’m delving into territory of sounding
like I work for JL here. Must re-assure you here that I’m not biased here,
having never had any affiliation with them.
All of the above can be bought from:
