Peckham | Shoreditch .(scribbled at 22:19 )
Midweek already- gosh, life is being
brilliant right now! This weekend is imminent, which can only mean
exhibition-catch-up-time… hurrah! I actually screamed a little with excitement
that the Barbican were hosting an exhibition on The Bauhaus, so that’s
definitely on the cards. And the V&A are having a little discussion about
terracotta sculpture this Sunday, which sounds equally as juicy. I was
originally planning to trek south of the river to the South London Gallery in
Peckham to check out Alice Channer’s work, but I went on a wee visit last
Thursday with my department at work (are your work outings this
cultured?!).
Bizarre as this
may seem, our day out was then followed by a treasure hunt around the streets
of Shoreditch, as a method of team building through clue hunting etc. It was
actually brilliant to notice things which you would casually overlook. Okay,
there was the occasional pub stop en route (as well as prior and post route)
but it was a totally unique way of exploring your own city! I've totally fallen
head over heels for this block of flats, they're not too far from the Bethnal
Green Road, and I like how the architect has even opted for pilasters as a
means of bringing a decorative element to this once-was-social-housing.
And these colours in these graffiti tags was rather fetching too. I've just noticed that the first photograph I took spells out 'Art'.
Anyway, I'm totally lusting for this which is the actual reason behind this post... and yes, those chairs are suspended, which is now instantly taking me back to my childhood of hanging from a door frame in a baby bouncer. This is design at its finest:
