Warwick Bar, EPRJCTS .(scribbled at 15:47 )
Got out of London. Again.
That pretty much sums up most of my weekends as of late.
Last weekend marked the beginning of long Summer activities in Birmingham to come, with the Warwick Bar Summer Fête.
Wit
h delicious Cookies & Cream Cupcakes home baked by a stall at
Edible Eastside (which admittedly, I was far too busy scoffing to take photos of...) and the most incredible array of organic preserves and jams, evidently all those in Digbeth that afternoon were in for a lovely treat. Even the weather was on our side (!) with no sign of imminent rainfall, although I did venture inside to view
The Possibility of an Island: Grand Union's latest exhibition.
This weekend also marked the 1 year anniversary of
Slow Boat, a 3 year project lead by Ikon Gallery in collaboration with British Waterways. Basically, Slow Boat is not just your average 72ft narrowboat- it also functions as a floating art space, meeting room, dining room, cinema and is soon to launch its very own radio station (!). I don't have any photographs of its interior, but it's almost like a white cube space (albeit with nautical coloured cushions inside it...). Anyway, so the boat sets sail along the Grand Union canal this weekend, all the way down to London to be moored by the towpath behind Chisenhale Gallery. I should probably mention here that although it may set sail this weekend, with an average speed of 4mph it won't be pulling into London for 2 weeks...

Recurring bunting theme? Very possibly. |

Bienvenue à Heath Mill Lane. |
Anyway, tales of buoys and tillers aside, Alice Channer's work at Eastside Projects was in its final weeks, and as Warwick Bar is a windlass's throw away from Heath Mill Lane, I wandered around its main gallery space for a while there. Somehow I was the only person there, so I pretty much had Channer's incredibly sculptures all to myself.... nice!

It was really brilliant to see Channer's work in a new space altogether, especially in another group show. Her work features in The London Open at Whitechapel Gallery, but I guess Eastside Projects naturally feels a very intimate setting. I caught her solo exhibition show briefly at The South London Gallery too, which was incredible!
Speaking of intimate settings, I was lucky enough to get this shot from Slow Boat's stern!
Slow Boat arrives into London on Saturday 4 August
Caroline Achaintre, Sara Barker, Alice Channer continues at Eastside Projects until 28 July.
